Som volontär på detta projekt arbetar du på Osrodek Pomocy Spolecznej (OPS), en statlig organisation på lokal nivå som tar hand om socialt utsatta människor, till exempel hemlösa, drogberoende, arbetslösa, handikappade, äldre osv. Volontärens arbetsuppgift är att organisera aktiviteter för ungdomar i socialt utsatta områden, på fritidsgårdar. Det kan vara sportaktiviteter som fotboll och simma, hålla i utbildningar om droger och mänskliga relationer, kultur-/konstaktiviteter såsom pyssla, måla, skulpturera, mm. Du kan också få hjälpa ungdomarna med läxor, samt arrangera resor och utflykter. Genom språkkurs har du möjlighet att lära dig polska.

A. Project environment
Osrodek Pomocy Spolecznej (OPS) is a governmental organisation in local level. Typical activities are social aid, social work and distribution financial and material means to satisfy basic needs of our clients. The main goal of our organisation is to help people who have a problems with social adaptation. We work with homeless, unemployed, addicted, people with disease, prisoners and victims of family violence, disabled and erderly people. We are planning to engage a volunteer in work with children and youth people, especially from disadvantaged comunnities or/ and less - privigled families, but the range of volunteer activities depend of her/his interesting and motivation - she/ he can find a field, where she/he can realize himself/ herself. It is possible to organize different kind of activities if voluneer need - she/he can work in each department of OPS.
Swarzedz with a population of 40 000 is located in western Poland about 10 km from capital of Wielkopolska region - Poznan. Swarzedz is a suburban area and has a good connection with Poznan by bus and train (about 20 minut by bus). Most of interesting places and cultural infrastructure is located in Poznan, which is a student's town with a few colleges and universities as well as places where students spend their free times. Usually our volunteers live in Poznan and each day arrive to work to Swarzedz.
B. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers
Osrodek Pomocy Spolecznej with about 100 workers and good working organisational structure is aimed at local community. The volunteer will have a possibility to participate in all kind of trainings and actvities organised by OPS. She/he can work in each department of our organisation.
We specifty a profil of volunteer' s activities, which will be most useful for our organisation.
The main goal of project is to organize various activities for youth people living in disadvantaged community or/and in less-privileged families. The main tasks of the project will be realized in 2 youth centres: in village - Gruszczyn and in the city - Swarzedz (youth centre in Swarzêdz is created for children, who live in families with social problems). The volunteer should help workers to organize various activities for children and youth like:
- sport activities (play football, play basketball, going to the swimming pool and organize sport competitions for children),
- educational activities (concerning emotions, solving conflicts, assertiveness, prevention against alcohol and drug addict, knowledge about human relations etc.),
- artistic activities (hand - made arts, drawing, painting, sculpture),
- cook courses (preparing healthy food and traditional dishes),
- helping children in doing their homework,
- events (Mother's Day, Christmas Day) and trips (visiting museum, going to the theatre, to the cinema etc.).
Daily timetable in youth centres:
I part (about 1 to 1,5 hour) - doing homework, education activities,
II part (about 0,5 hour) - having lunch with children,
III part (about 2 hours) - various kind of activities.
Volunteer will participate in activities in youth centres. After a volunteer will organize activities connected with her hobby. At the end of the project she will be responsible for organizing an event for the young people from youth centres and their friends. The event will be connected with her country and its heritage.
We provide learning Polish language - the volunteer will can possibility to participate in course of Polish language - two times a week for two/three hours.
A volunteer can realize a "mini course" of his/ her native language for erderly people (if she/he wants - it is not obligatory).
Volnteer's tasks:
- participating in daily activities of youth centres,
- helping workers to organize some activities,
- organizing some activities for children and youth, the profil of her activity depends on her interesting and comptences,
- organizing an event connected with her country and its heritage for young people from youth centres and their friends,
- realize a "mini course" of her native language for young unemployed in Communal Centre of Information (optionally).
During her/his stay on the project the volunteer will gain new knowledge in the topic work with children and youth people. She/he will be also to develop his/her personality, gain new social competences and understand Polish culture, while meeting during her/his activities a lot of people from different social backgrounds. She/ he has to chance to learn Polish language.
C. Volunteer profiles and recruitment process
We would like to host a volunteer beetwen 18 to 30 years old, who is open-minded, creative and has a big motivation to work. She should be ready to learn about Polish culture and share her/his heritage. She/ he should be able to build upon her/ his experience and develop skills and competences based on non - formal education in our organisation. We prefer person, who wants to work with children and has some hobbies that may be useful in this work (like sport, artistic or other interesting). We would like to use her/ his experiences, skills and competence in our work.
We are open to cooperate with all kind of candidates and sending organisation. To apply for our project the volunteer should send us her/his CV and motivation letter with information about interesting and desired date of the project. We prefered volunteer who decide to stay in Poland minimum 6 months.
D. Number of volunteers hosted
Organisation is able to host 1 volunteer.
E. Risk prevention, protection and safety
Volunteer will be assisted by EVS coordinator and by mentor from hosting organisation. Inside organisation there is a worker, who is responsible for technical things connected with project and realisation of tasks and activities. The volunteer can use its support each day. Volunteer will have a mobile phone and access to internet to contact with supporting team and sending organisation all the time.
At the beginning of the project volunteer will participate in introduction meeting about safety rules and organisation's regulation, which are obligatory for each workers in OPS.
EVS coordinator and volunteer have a regular meetings to discuss about personal development of volunteer and about current challenges and problems in project. They can find a solution of difficult situations and crisis.
During work in youth centres a volunteer will work with regular workers, who will be responsible for pupils.
Osrodek Pomocy Spolecznej (OPS) has the experience in hosting volunteers for long term projects. (we coordinated two long - term projects, which are finished successfully).
We would like to engage a volunteer in work with young people, especially from disadvantaged communities or/ and less - privigled families. Before EVS projects our pupils didn't have many chances to meet somebody from abroad and work in international team, because they live in a small community, where new situations and new people was assimilated with huge distance and fear. Previous EVS projects helped to break mental borders connected with contacting with foreigners. During previous EVS projects our pupils developed their personality and improved social skills and language skills. They felt better in contact with foreigners. We would like continue this work with young people in next EVS projects.
Osrodek Pomocy Spolecznej is a govenrmental organisation in local level. OPS was established to help people with different problems of social adaptation. Typical activities of OPS are social aid, social work and the distribution of financial and material means to satisfy basic needs. We have about 50 regular workers and 50 part time workers. Our organisation is divided in a few departments. One of them is called "The Department of Prophylaxis and Therapy". This department is responsible for drug and alcohol prevention activities, especially:
- anti - drug and alcohol abuse programs at schools,
- counselling centres for victims of violence, alcohol and drug addicted people and their families,
- various kind of youth centres,
- specialists centres for children, who live with alcohol addicted parents.
We would like to engage a volunteer in work in youth centres, but it is possible to find different kind of activities according to interesting and motivation of volunteer.
