Fria Burma- för demokrati i Burma!

Projektet Fria Burma uppstod ur ett genuint engagemang hos projektets initiativtagare för att förbättra den odemokratiska situationen i Burma. En förändring av styrelseskicket i Burma, från militärdiktatur till demokrati, tror vi är en viktig grund för att utveckling skall vara möjlig i landet. Årets så kallade val tror vi inte kommer att bidra till ökad demokrati- snarare tvärt om. Därför måste omvärlden agera. Genom påtryckningsarbete och genom att fördöma valet och det kommande resultatet kan omvärlden göra skillnad. I Sverige har vi i år ett fritt val och vi har även möjlighet att välja att agera för vår omvärld. Vi upplever att kunskapen om situationen i Burma i allmänhet och om ”valet” i synnerhet, är låg hos allmänheten i Sverige. Dessutom tror vi att många saknar vetskap om konkreta sätt att engagera sig på. Detta vill vi förändra!
Vi vill genom projektet Fria Burma, som kommer mynna ut i en fotoutställning med föreläsning, minska okunskapen, visa nödvändigheten i att engagera sig och dessutom visa konkreta vägar för hur detta kan göras.
Den 11 september 2010 på Inspiration Världen- Global Rättvisa Nu!genomförde Fokus Asien fotoutställningen. Vi anordnade även ett fullsatt seminarium med Frida Perjus från S- Studenters Burmautskott och Karin Valtersson från Svenska Burmakommittén. Samtalsledare var Fokus Asiens ordförande Wilda Nilsson. Free Burma – For democracy in Burma!
The Free Burma project emerged from a genuine interest amongst the project initiators to commit in the process of trying to improve the political situation in Burma. We believe that a reforming of the government, from military dictatorship to democracy, is a vital step in order to secure Burma’s future development. We do not believe that this year’s arranged election will contribute to a democracy in Burma. On the contrary, we do believe it will have the opposite effect and further strengthen and empower the military regime that rules Burma today. Because of the reasons explained above, it is important for the rest of the world to act. By condemning and putting international pressure on the the election and its result, we can make a difference together. In Sweden today we have political freedom and freedom of speech whilst in Burma the people are not allowed to express opinions against the regime.
We feel that the knowledge of the situation in Burma is generally poor amongst the people in Sweden. Especially regarding the upcoming arranged election. We also feel that the possibilities of involvement are unknown to most people and this is what we want to change.
Through the Free Burma project, which will result in a photo exhibition combined with lectures, we want to increase the public’s awareness, show the necessity of involvement and commitment and demonstrate how to get involved.
